Conquer the Roof of Africa via the scenic Machame Route. This 7-day trek takes you through five distinct climate zones, from lush rainforest to arctic summit. Our experienced mountain guides and porters ensure your safety and comfort all the way to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (1,800m). Begin trekking through lush montane rainforest. The trail is well-maintained but muddy. Arrive at Machame Camp (3,000m) for overnight.
Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Trek through the heath zone with moorland vegetation. The landscape opens up with stunning views. Arrive at Shira Plateau Camp (3,840m).
Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Trek to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). 'Climb high, sleep low' strategy for altitude adjustment.
Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp
Scale the famous Barranco Wall — a thrilling scramble with incredible views. Continue to Karanga Camp (4,035m) through the alpine desert.
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Short but important trek to Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base camp for summit night. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Summit Night — Uhuru Peak!
Depart at midnight for the summit push. Trek through scree and snow to reach Stella Point (5,756m) at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)! Descend to Mweka Camp.
Descent & Celebration
Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate! Transfer back to Moshi for a celebration dinner.
